Membership Options

Fort McMurray Roller Derby League offer a variety of different membership options. You can join as a competitive skater, or a recreational skater. You can join as a volunteer or a referee. The choice is all yours!  There are many volunteer positions not listed here. If you are interested in something else:

 Junior

Requirements:

  • Ages 7-17 (turns 7 within calendar year. Ages 16-17 can register into adult practices with parental/guardian consent)
  • Pay $125 (Level 0-3 for 1day/wk) or $160 (Level 2-3 for 2days/wk) per 3 month term (+ insurance)
  • Parent/guardian volunteer at least one event or home game per term

Benefits:

  • Eligible for Team Captain
  • Can play in games
  • Can play in invitationals
  • Detailed requirements

New Skater

Requirements:

  • Ages 18+
  • Pay $160 for 3 month program (+ insurance)
  • Volunteer at 50% of the events and home games.

Benefits:

  • Can vote on league decision
  • Can hold a Board of Director position
  • Detailed requirements

Recreational Skater

Requirements:

  • Ages 18+
  • Pay $10 drop in or $65/month (+ insurance)
  • Be benchmarked for level of practice.
  • Attend practice at least once every 60 days to remain benchmarked. 
  • Volunteer at 1 event and 1 home game per 6 months.

Benefits:

  • Can vote on league decision
  • Can sit on a committee
  • Can hold a Board of Director position if associate requirements are met.
  • Can play in games (with FRMDL, only if the roster does not have enough game eligible active skaters and upon captain/coach assessment).
  • Can play in invitationals

Active Skater

Requirements:

  • Ages 18+
  • Pay $65/month ($390 per 6 month term), + insurance
  • Be benchmarked for level of practice.
  • Miss no more than 4 practices in 30 days outside of work/school/child care.
  • Volunteer at 50% of event and home games per 6 months.

Benefits:

  • Eligible for Team Captain
  • Sit on at least one committee
  • Vote on league decisions
  • Can hold a Board of Director position
  • Can play in games
  • Can play in invitationals
  • Detailed requirements

 Coach

Requirements:

  • Pass Fresh Meat benchmark after a reasonable training period, if on skates coach
  • Meet requirements in Coaching Contract
  • Commit to 11 months as a coach with the Fort McMurray Roller Derby League
  • Is not a permanent coach with another league
  • Pays a $100 deposit fee, refundable after 11 months if requirements have been met

Benefits:

  • Can play in invitationals, if benchmarking requirements set by the host league have been met
  • Does not pay dues
  • Can be a skater or referee with another league

Official/Referee

Requirements:

  • Pass Referee benchmark after a reasonable training period
  • Skate as an official for 11 months
  • Referee at 50% of Fort McMurray Roller Derby League’s home games and away games if possible
  • Miss no more than 6 practices a month outside of work/school/child care
  • Attend 1 scrimmage each month
  • Pays a $100 deposit fee, refundable after 11 months if requirements have been met

Benefits:

  • Can play in invitationals, if benchmarking requirements set by the host league have been met
  • Does not pay dues
  • Has hotel cost for travel partially or fully reimbursed
  • Is paid $50 for each home game refereed

Non-skating Official

Requirements:

  • Volunteer at Fort McMurray Roller Derby League’s home games
  • Practice with Fort McMurray Roller Derby League for any specific training requirements (varies based on roles)

Benefits:

  • Does not pay dues
  • Does not have to pass any skating skills
